Dr. Yong Ho was born and grew up in Nanjing, China. He taught English at Jiangsu Normal University, China for a number of years before he came to study at Columbia University in 1986. He received his Ph.D. in anthropology/ linguistics from Columbia University in 1992. His concentration was in Chinese anthropology and Chinese language. Yong Ho previously served as the he Director of Curriculum and Language at China Institute and the Coordinator of the Chinese Program at the United Nations. He currently teaches in the Translation and Interpreting Program at New York University and co-chairs the Renwen Society at China Institute. His publications in the U.S. include Aspects of Discourse Structure in Mandarin Chinese, Beginner's Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, China: An Illustrated History, A Children's Dictionary of Chinese, A Chinese-English Dictionary of 500 Most Frequently Used Words in Chinese, and Language Use in the U.S.
