Teaching Chinese characters through artistic lenses

论文摘要Paper AbstractThe presenter will demonstrate how to learn Chinese characters in a creative and artistic way. About 300 commonly-used characters in drawing will be demonstrated to the audience. The presenter will share ideas on designing and creating the character art and her insights on connecting the character teaching with Chinese culture and visual arts. Art pictures and videos will be played and demonstrated (www.chinesecharacterart.com). The audience will gain innovative ideas about teaching Chinese characters, design class activities to help students learn characters in a meaningful way, and connect character teaching with culture and visual arts. A free poster designed by 50 Chinese characters will be given to each audience.

 发言人简介Presenter's BioYan Huang earned her Master’s degree in Education from George Mason University in Virginia. She started her teaching career six years ago at TC Williams High School in Alexandria, VA. Under her teaching, the program has grown from only offering Chinese one to now offering levels one through AP. She is the founder of Chinese Character Art (www.chinesecharacterart.com)
