Challenges and Opportunities for Leveled Chinese Reading Materials

论文摘要Paper AbstractLearning of the Chinese Language has become a worldwide phenomenon; it is crucial to have a set of guidelines for Chinese language leveled reading materials. As we all know, extensive reading plays a key role in the language learning process, especially its impact on the learners’ acquisition of L2 vocabulary and grammar development. Finding appropriate leveled reading materials is even more important for the learners’ language competence development.

 This presentation will discuss how can we develop a more specific and scientific guideline system for Chinese Language leveled reading materials based on the current US English leveled reading criteria. It also translates the text level indicators into standards that can be applied in the Chinese texts. Examples of Chinese text level indicators and leveled texts will be given to support the discussion of the application of English leveled text criteria.
