Using Nearpod and Voice Thread in a Beginner level One-on-One Class

论文摘要Paper AbstractThis session discusses using a set of technological tools, highlighting Nearpod and Voice Thread, to build a learning community in a beginner level Mandarin class.  The presenter teaches in a high school setting where the majority of the students have no Mandarin language background. Thus, to get the students engaged in class, exposed to authentic language materials, and to practice speaking the language everyday is the major task and challenge. By including Nearpod, the teacher implements sheltered instruction to provide grade appropriate materials, and keep the students are always on the same page. By using Voice Thread, students have a chance to practice Mandarin, listen to classmates’ input, and comment on each other’s threads. It also assures the teacher to monitor the learning process for the best outcome.

 发言人简介Presenter's BioWith a master's degree in curriculum and teaching from Fordham Unidersity, the presenter has been teaching Mandarin in Fordham Preparatory School since 2007. The presenter is currently a graduate student in Catholic Educational Leadership at Fordham University.
