Medical education for international students in Wenzhou Medical University

论文摘要Paper AbstractWenzhou Medical University started to recruit international students in 2006. Ten years later, in 2016, the total number of international students in the university has reached 952, which includes undergraduate, Master Degree and Ph.D. Students. The majors cover clinical medicine, dentistry and pharmacology. In order to guarantee the quality of medical education for the international students, the affiliated hospitals of the university applied many education methods which included problem based learning (PBL) and case based learning (CBL).

During the one year internship period at the end of the 6-year MBBS program, students are trained to find clinical problems during the clinical practice and to solve them in a student-centered discussion style in a small group. The students are also encouraged to acquire active attitudes to learn cutting edge medical knowledge and skills and to obtain ability to have good relationship with patients and members of their medical teams.All of the efforts help improve satisfaction of the students, enhance the students’ ability in self-learning, problem solving, information gathering, interpersonal communication and job performance.

 发言人简介Presenter's BioDr. CHEN, Hao obtained his MBBS degree from Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) in 1996, and Master's Degree of Internal Medicine from WMU in 2008. After more than 20 years working as a Gastroenterologist and medical students’ teacher, now he is an Associate Consultant Physician and Associate Professor of Gastroenterology Dept., the Second Affiliated Hospital of WMU. He also is the director of Teaching Affairs Dept. of the same hospital. He manages teaching programs for not only Chinese but also overseas students in the hospital. He is one of the best teachers for overseas students in WMU and has a very good reputation among overseas students.
