Effective and Engaging: Valuable Lessons Learned From the Inquiry-based Model for Chinese Immersion and CSL Classrooms

Presented by a team of teachers from YingHua International School, the Princeton-based independent school that offers Chinese immersion education to students from pre-kindergarten through elementary grades, this presentation focuses on the many valuable lessons learned from combining inquiry-based learning and effective pedagogy of second language acquisition. We will share detailed lesson plans of a number of successful units of inquiry, effectively integrating language arts, social studies, math and science, and meeting the pertinent common core state standards. The target audience of this presentation is teachers of Chinese immersion program as well as CSL programs in private and public schools of mostly non-heritage learners.

 

Presenters: Founded in 2007, YingHua International School (YHIS) is the only non-profit, independent school in the greater Princeton area that offers full-time Chinese-English dual-language education to students from Pre-school through elementary grades. It serves a culturally and linguistically diverse student population from the surrounding communities. The presenters are experienced teachers from YHIS.
