Making a Field Trip Not Just a
Field Trip

Too often students are taken on
field trips with no other purpose than to leave school and “have fun”.
Recently, I took five of my high school Chinese classes (three levels) on a
field trip to Chinatown in Flushing. However,
I was determined to not only provide the students with an educational
experience, but also one in which the students could apply what they learned in
the real situation. In this paper, I would like to share how I designed my
field trip plans by using differentiate instruction, and making field trip as
an outside classroom.
