While Chinese language courses start to bloom in many public schools, such courses are often electives. This means the existence of a Chinese language course largely depends on student enrollment. The status quo proposed much more complicated requirements for “qualified” Chinese language teachers, in addition to a teaching certification issued by the State. Combining with considerations of common practice requirements for public school teachers, this paper discusses what real-life requirements for Chinese language teachers are and how to frost comprehensive cross-culture communication ability for pre-service Chinese teachers and help them to become truly “qualified” instructors in U.S. k-12 classroom.
