How to Find a Job as a Student of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language

Surveys reveal that two majors, English major and Chinese major, made up 70% of teachers of Chinese as Foreign Language in the United States. Most of them were born outside the United States. Looking for a job is the second challenge next to their previous decision to be a professional in teaching Chinese. It has been observed that it took candidate teachers average 1.5 years to find their jobs. The present essay discussed the psychology of candidate teachers, their strength and weakness in job hunting and points out there are tips in job hunting. It is the present writer’s wish that these tips could be of some help to those student teachers, new immigrant teachers and those who recently graduated from colleges. The essay concluded that the demand for Chinese teachers is increasing while the numbers of qualified teachers are far from enough. The tips sell the candidate at a better price at the human resource market.
