Ball State
University made
the decision in 2006 to
create a Chinese language program. The
program involves helping its students learning Chinese language and
culture
since Chinese has become the second largest foreign language taught in
the USA.
This paper discusses how the program was established, what content and
what
courses are included in the master syllabi for different levels and
course
types, and what academic related activities are being conducted in the
program. The program has grown up
quickly in its enrollment, its variety of courses, and its
establishment of
scholarships to send students to study in China. As a result of the
growth of
the program, volunteer instructors from Harbin
Normal University, China
will begin teaching at Ball
State University
in the fall of 2009.
