Proposal: Learning Chinese with Fun

Podcast

ü        Warm up for the class at the beginning of the year with easiness (the garage band project as an example).

*        Students like to use the latest technologies to show cool stuff made by themselves without knowing that they were reviewing Chinese learned last year.

*        Students repeated their speeches in Chinese through the recording.

*        Easy to apply the differentiated instruction with different level and different interest.

 

Videocast

ü        Engage students to participate (the weather project of 8th grade as an example).

*        100% students participated (One of students who was misbehaved in class did good job in this project).

*        Students learn from each other with happiness.

*        Enjoyed every minute include practice.

ü      Encourage students to compete with fun

*        Students in 7th graders felt successful when they understood the conversation when they watched the video of the weather project.

*        This was a fun review material for 7th grades.

*        Students in 7th grade tried hard to do a better project.

 

Videoconference

ü        To Be A Teacher Project (videoconference with the 3rd graders of Sloatsburg)

*        Students, especially 6th graders, like to be teachers to teach elementary school students.

*        All projects are very creative (making Chinese Hamster Dance, pictures of characters evolution, …)

*        Chinese culture research.

*        Differentiated instruction

ü      To make a flattened classroom(in process) (videoconference with the sister school in China)

*        Students communicate in Chinese with the peers of the sister school as much as possible.

*        Students ask and answer questions to each other.

*        Real foreign language environment benefit for both sides.
